Quick-release dog collars
A quick-release dog collar should be easy to use, sit securely and suit your dog’s proportions. Here, we help you choose the right size, material and style for everyday walks.
Three things to check
Measure your dog’s neck and compare the result with the size chart for the relevant style.
Check that the buckle closes fully and has no cracks or damage.
Choose the collar width, weight and hardware to suit your dog’s size and everyday life.
Quick-release buckles for different dogs
Don Lorino’s Click and Petit share the same convenient concept but have different proportions. Your dog’s individual measurements always determine the final choice, but each collection provides a helpful starting point.

Click
For dogs that need a wider collar and a broader range of neck sizes. The collection can be paired with a matching harness, lead and accessories.

Petit
For smaller neck measurements and dogs that need a more petite collar. Narrower straps and smaller proportions create a more balanced feel.
Choose the collar in the right order
Begin with function and fit. Once those are right, choose the colour and look that feel most like you.
Measure where the collar normally sits, close to the skin without pulling the tape measure tight.
Use the specific size chart. Do not rely solely on breed or weight.
A small dog often needs more petite proportions than a larger dog.
Make sure the collar cannot be pulled over your dog’s head and that they can move comfortably.

Check the buckle before every walk
A quick-release buckle is exposed to movement, dirt and daily use. A brief check helps you spot wear before setting out.
Close the buckle fully and check that the parts meet correctly. Gently pull the collar to make sure the fastening holds.
Check the quick-release buckle, adjustment, rings, stitching and material. Stop using the collar if any load-bearing component is damaged.
How tight should the collar be?
The collar should sit securely without pressing, chafing or restricting your dog. The two-finger rule is a useful first check, but your dog’s head shape, coat and the collar design also matter.
Take particular care with dogs that have a narrow head or broad neck.
Check for redness and changes in the coat after removing the collar.
A puppy’s growth, weight and coat can affect their neck measurement.

About quick-release dog collars
What is a quick-release buckle on a dog collar?
A quick-release buckle opens and closes without a traditional pin buckle. This makes the collar easy to put on and remove, while the size is adjusted separately.
Is a metal buckle better than a plastic buckle?
Material alone does not determine quality. The construction, dimensions, condition and fit are also important. Inspect the buckle regularly, regardless of material.
Which size should I choose?
Measure your dog’s neck where the collar will sit and compare it with the measurements for the relevant product. Do not choose based solely on breed, age or weight, as dogs’ proportions vary.
Is a quick-release buckle suitable for a puppy?
An adjustable quick-release collar can be practical for a growing puppy. Choose a lightweight, proportionate style, check the fit often and never leave a puppy unsupervised with equipment that could become caught.
What is the difference between Click and Petit?
Petit is Don Lorino’s most petite collection, with narrower straps and low weight for puppies and smaller dogs. Click has a broader size range and suits dogs that need a wider collar.
How do I clean a quick-release collar?
Follow the care instructions on the product page. Wipe away dirt with a soft, damp cloth and allow the collar to dry thoroughly. Avoid cleaning products that could affect the material or hardware.
Can I attach an ID tag to the collar?
Yes, if the style has a designated accessory ring. Attach the ID tag where it does not interfere with the buckle and check that both ring and tag are secure.
Find the right quick-release collar
Choose Click for a broader size range or Petit for smaller proportions. Always measure your dog before purchasing and check the fit when the collar arrives.
