Don Lorino · Dog harness measuring guide
What size harness does my dog need?
Measure the neck and chest, compare both measurements with the same size and check how the harness sits when your dog moves. Here's a simple way to choose between Petit and Click.

01 · Start with the tape measure
How to measure for a dog harness
Let your dog stand relaxed. Use a soft tape measure close to the body without pulling it tight. Measure twice in the same place and note the measurements in centimetres.
Around the neck
Measure around the part of the neck where the neck strap of the harness will sit. A collar measurement may have been taken in a different place, so check on your dog again.
Around the chest
Measure around the widest part of the chest, usually just behind the front legs. Keep the tape flat and make sure the coat doesn't make you add a lot of extra room.
Compare both
The neck and chest measurements must both fit within the same size. If only one measurement fits, check a different size or model.
02 · Petit or Click
Compare your dog's two measurements
Petit has narrower straps and one size for smaller dogs. Click has wider straps and three sizes. The table is a guide for Don Lorino harnesses in these ranges; always check the size table on the product page before you buy.
| Range and size | Neck circumference | Chest circumference | Strap width |
|---|---|---|---|
| Petit | approx. 18–33 cm* | 24–40 cm | 1.2 cm |
| Click XS–S | 28–43 cm | 35–51 cm | 2 cm |
| Click M | 38–57 cm | 40–72 cm | 2.5 cm |
| Click L–XL | 46–70 cm | 55–90 cm | 2.5 cm |
*The smallest neck setting may differ between Petit models. Always check the neck range for the specific product you choose.

03 · Three examples
How to use the table
Several possible options
Both measurements fit within Petit and Click XS–S. Also compare strap width, hardware and how the harness sits on your dog.
Check Click XS–S
The neck measurement is above the Petit range in the overview, while both measurements fit within Click XS–S. Check the table for the product you choose.
No obvious size
The chest is too large for Petit and Click XS–S in the table, while the neck is too small for Click M. Don't choose a size that only fits one of the measurements.
The examples only show how to read the ranges; they are not recommendations for a particular breed.
04 · Try it at home
Check the fit while your dog moves
Put the harness on and adjust it according to the product instructions. It should sit securely without rubbing or ending up in the armpit. Watch your dog stand, walk and turn. Also check that your dog can't back out of the harness.
If a strap presses, the harness rotates or your dog moves differently, adjust it or try a different model. A growing puppy needs to be measured again regularly.
Your quick checklist

FAQ
Questions about harness size
Is it enough to know my dog's weight or breed?
No. Dogs of the same breed and weight can have different body shapes. Measure the neck and chest and compare both with the size table for the specific harness.
What do I do if the neck fits one size and the chest another?
Don't choose based on just one of the measurements. Compare a different model or contact us with your dog's measurements and a link to the product you're looking at.
How often should I measure a puppy?
Measure again when you notice the harness fits differently or as your puppy grows. Check the fit regularly.
